Looking ahead to the Super Bowl, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan thinks former Indiana football star Tevin Coleman will play.

There is just one game left in the NFL season, I can’t believe we are already saying that, and the Indiana football program will not only be represented on the sidelines during that game but could also have a big part of it on the field as well.

Following a breakout performance against the Minnesota Vikings in which he ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns, Tevin Coleman missed most of the NFC Championship game against the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury he suffered in the first quarter. Having to be carted off of the field, it was obvious Coleman was in a lot of pain, and the early signs didn’t look good for his ability to play in Super Bowl LIV on Feb 2. However, signs may be pointing towards Coleman suiting up.

San Fransisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters Monday afternoon and was very upbeat with his message.

"“We’ve got to wait until we get the (MRI) back, so I don’t want to speculate too much,” Shanahan said. “It’s usually a week to rest it and it usually gets back in. I expect him to have a chance to play. Can’t hold me to that. We’ll find out after the imaging. But (I) expect him to have a good chance to play.”"

Because of the ‘bye week’ in between now and the Super Bowl, it should give Coleman ample time to get back on the field, with the assumption that nothing serious is shown on the MRI.

Depending on the results for Coleman, the 49ers may have to adjust their game plan ahead of the matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the strong rushing attack for the 49ers this season, and in the playoffs, the Chiefs are coming off of a terrific defensive performance in which they held Derrick Henry to just 69 yards on the ground in the AFC Championship game.
