The Indiana basketball team finally picked up their first road win of the year. Three Hoosiers scored in double figures in the win.
Indiana traveled to Nebraska Saturday night looking for a season sweep of the Cornhuskers. In doing so they were also looking to pick up their first true road win of the year. Road wins have been a rarity in the Big Ten this year, but the Hoosiers were finally able to get one.
It didn’t look good for the Hoosiers early as the Cornhuskers raced out to a nine-point lead halfway through the first half. But Indiana was able to go on a 13-4 run over the next four minutes to tie the game. Devonte Green would hit a three with 4:31 left in the first half that would give the Hoosiers the lead and one they would never relinquish.
Indiana would take a 46-41 lead into the half, but with the way the Hoosiers had been playing in the second half lately, no lead felt safe. Instead of the Hoosiers going on a big scoring slump they finally did the exact opposite as they started the half on a 16-2 run to open up a 20 point lead.
Indiana did go three minutes without scoring as the Cornhuskers cut the lead to eight but this time they were able to snap out of the slump quicker than normal and kept Nebraska at bay.
The Cornhuskers would hang around and get the game within six a couple of different times in the last minute, but each time the Hoosiers responded to keep the game out of reach. Nebraska had a few chances to get even closer but they couldn’t hit any threes late and the Hoosiers were able to come away with an 82-74 win.
Trayce Jackson-Davis recorded yet another double-double as he scored 18 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Joey Brunk added 16 and Justin Smith contributed 15 points. Nine Hoosiers scored in the game where Archie Miller got a lot of production from the bench, as they scored 21 points combined. No player had more than eight points in the first half as the Hoosiers showed a very balanced attack.
It may have been against one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year, but getting a road win is still a big deal for the Hoosiers. With the win, Indiana improved to 4-3 in the Big Ten and 14-4 overall.
The Hoosiers will look to get their fourth win in five games when they host Michigan State next Thursday. The Hoosiers will look for their third straight win against the Spartans as they surprisingly swept them last year.
