Indiana football has found its new offensive coordinator and it comes through promotion from within its own program.

Wasting very little time following the bowl game defeat, Indiana football has found its new offensive coordinator after it was announced a few weeks ago that Kalen DeBoer would be leaving to accept the Fresno State head coaching position.

According to multiple reports, the Hoosiers will elevate Nick Sheridan into the offensive coordinator position. Sheridan spent the last three seasons on the IU staff as the quarterbacks coach and last season as the tight ends coach. With the promotion, Sheridan will also resume his duties working with the quarterbacks as well.

In his first season as a tight ends coach, Sheridan played a huge role in the development of Peyton Hendershot. Finishing with 622 yards on the year, Hendershot set a single-season receiving record amongst tight ends in Indiana history.

After a record-setting year for Kalen DeBoer and the rest of the Indiana offense, Tom Allen made it clear he wanted to keep the same scheme for the near future and Sheridan quickly became his guy.

Before his time at Indiana, Sheridan worked as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky before receiving a promotion to the QB’s coach in 2012. Following that stint, he was part of Willie Taggart’s staff at South Florida where he was the quarterbacks coach once again in 2013. From 2014-16, Sheridan was on the Tennessee staff, working as an assistant and helping the development of Joshua Dobbs, now current NFL QB.

Now with the offensive coordinator spot filled, Allen still has to find a replacement on his staff for someone to work with the tight ends, as well as special teams as it was announced that DeBoer would be taking coordinator William Inge from IU to Fresno State with him to be his defensive coordinator.
