Indiana Football: 5 bold predictions for the this decade
By Adam Childs
2. The Hoosiers make at least five bowl games
Indiana has made it to only 12 bowl games in the history of the program. The best stretch was when they went to five bowls in a six-year stretch from 1986-91. The last bowl in 1991 was also the last time the Hoosiers won a bowl. It looked like the streak would end this year, but a late collapse kept that from happening.
The Hoosiers will at least duplicate that success under Bill Mallory and make at least five bowls in the next decade. I think they will make more, but five is the minimum.
The schedules for the Hoosiers this decade aren’t exactly tough outside of having to play in the Big Ten East, but who knows that could change in the next decade if they try and balance out the divisions. The Hoosiers do have Cincinnati on their schedule twice and Louisville shows up around the middle of the decade but the other two non-conference games are not tough. If they can continue to win games they should and improve they should have no problem getting to six wins each year.
Not only will the Hoosiers make it to at least five bowl games this decade they will win at least two of them. Indiana got a taste of victory in the Gator Bowl and they will be ready the next time they get there. They were also close the two bowls before that, but they will break through and break the long drought of bowl losses.
