1. Taking home the Old Oaken Bucket

Indiana entered the last game of the year already eligible for a bowl. Purdue, on the other hand, was at the end of a very disappointing and injury-filled season. Even with a win, they wouldn’t be going to a bowl game and all they had to play for was to keep the Old Oaken Bucket.

The game was a cold and rainy day in West Lafayette. The Hoosiers were the favorite and for most of the game looked like the far superior team. Indiana led the Boilermakers 28-10 when Whop Philyor caught a touchdown pass with 3:30 left in the third quarter.

Purdue would score a touchdown on their next possession just before the fourth quarter and two more in the fourth to tie the game and send it to overtime. It was a huge comeback by the Boilermakers and one that could have shaken the Hoosiers enough to lose the game in extra time.

Indiana, though, scored a touchdown quickly on their first possession and looked on there way to winning the game in the first overtime but a crazy bounce and catch helped the Boilermakers tie it.

The Hoosier defense bounced back and held Purdue to just a field goal in the second extra period. Ramsey would connect with Philyor on a huge third-down play down to the one and would sneak the next play in to give the Hoosiers the win and possession of the Old Oaken Bucket for the first time in three years.

It was a tough game, but a fitting way for the Hoosiers to end their regular season. The win helped propel the Hoosiers to a Gator Bowl berth and their first postseason appearance in the state of Florida.
