Indiana Basketball: Top 5 recruiting classes of the decade
By Alec Lasley
2. 2018 Class (No. 10 overall class)
Romeo Langford (No. 7 overall recruit)
Jerome Hunter (No. 59 overall recruit)
Damezi Anderson (No. 124 overall recruit)
Robert Phinisee (No. 135 overall recruit)
Jake Forrester (No. 147 overall recruit)
This was Archie Miller’s first recruiting class at Indiana as he nailed a top-10 class nationally and brought hope back to Bloomington.
Though the season didn’t go as planned, the 2018 class has players that will be part of the backbone of the program for the next few seasons.
Led by Romeo Langford, the now Boston Celtics guard had one of the toughest seasons in program history as fans scrutinized him left and right. Averaging 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, Langford played through injuries his entire season.
Though it will be remembered as the season that had 12-of-13 games resulting in losses in Big Ten play, Langford was not only a huge recruiting win for Miller, but also looks like he will pave the way for the top overall recruit in the state of Indiana to go to Bloomington.
Rob Phinisee has proved his value over and over throughout his young career. After missing a long period of time last year due to a concussion, it was clear that he was the extension of Archie Miller on the floor. The sophomore point guard has remained that way this year.
Fighting injuries early in the 2019-20 season, Phinisee has shown that he is the stabilizing force that keeps the Hoosiers running, and will be one of the best point guards in the Big Ten once he is a senior.
For Damezi Anderson and Jerome Hunter, both are now part of the deep rotation for the Hoosiers. Anderson has played in crucial moments this season and has been an energy guy off of the bench.
With Hunter, it was unclear how much, or if at all, he would play this season. After missing all of his freshman year with a leg condition, Hunter has shown flashes of the top-60 recruit that committed to Indiana a couple of years ago.
