The FanSided 250 annual rankings dropped on December 10th and the Indiana Hoosiers were nowhere to be found. Why were the Hoosiers snubbed a spot on this list?

The annual list of fandoms came out yesterday in the form of the FanSided 250. It is an ultimate list of fandoms from sports to entertainment, gaming to celebrities and everything in between. It is a huge task and there are always going to be people and things that get snubbed and in turn its fun to argue about it.

Well if you went looking on this list for the Indiana Hoosiers you are still looking. They didn’t make the cut this year. It is not surprising in some ways, but if you look closely at some of the things that made it is.

The biggest argument is that the Hoosiers should definitely be ahead of some of the “celebrities” on this list. The fact that people like Kim Kardashian and her sister Kylie Jenner are way up on this list just shows how much a reality tv generation we live in.

Its also kind of baffling how teams like the Kansas City Royals and Orlando Magic to name a few made the list but not Indiana. The Royals are one of the worst baseball teams in the league and Orlando has struggled to gain any traction lately in the NBA. But they are in different leagues so it is tough to make a good comparison.

The biggest way to judge is to see the other colleges on this list. The top 15 is pretty normal with Michigan, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, and Oklahoma on the list to name a few. And while it would be nice to be ahead of those schools among others it is tough to argue.

But the further down the list on the colleges you go and you begin to wonder. The last six colleges on the list are Miami, North Carolina A&T, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Memphis, and Alcorn State. Memphis makes sense because of Penny Hardaway as their new basketball coach, and maybe even Nebraska with Scott Frost. Wisconsin has had a great football team and a good basketball team so you can make an argument for the Badgers.

But Miami has been bad lately, and it seems like their fans are souring on them right now, but they are still a big-time college so let’s say they are ahead also.

Then that leaves North Carolina A&T and Alcorn State. I am all for celebrating the smaller schools, but how is their fandom greater than the Hoosiers? Especially if you are accounting basketball into the picture. The Hoosiers have one of the most loyal and enthusiastic fan bases in all of college when it comes to basketball.

Football may have brought it down, but with the season the Hoosiers just had you would think that would be up also. Maybe it was too quick to take into account the most recent football season and if so the Hoosiers might be on their way up.

You can’t argue with a lot of the people or schools ahead of them but they have to be higher than a few of them. If not then the Hoosier fan base needs to take offense to the fact they the Hoosiers aren’t as loved as the other schools. Show the love to the football team and keep doing what you are doing with the basketball program and they will notice you.

But they haven’t this year and for that, we are left scratching our heads.
