It was announced ahead of Indiana Basketball’s game against UConn that the sophomore point guard would be available to play.

It has been well over a year since Archie Miller and the Indiana basketball program has had a full roster available, and up until Tuesday night, it looked like it would be another game where at least one player would be out with an injury.

That has changed in the matter of the last hour, however. According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, sophomore point guard Rob Phinisee will be available for Indiana’s game against UConn.

The talk all season has been about when Phinisee will be healthy. Dealing with an abdominal issue heading into the season, Phinisee then dealt with a head injury and then, most recently, the ankle issue. All together the Indiana guard has missed five games, including the past four outings.

The sophomore is the lone true point guard on the Indiana roster and the Hoosiers have definitely been hurt by his absence, even dating back to last year. This year however, against the last four opponents the Hoosiers are averaging 16.7 turnovers per game, with two games of 18 as well as a 19 turnover game.

Al Durham, Armaan Franklin, and Devonte Green have all done an average job at getting the offense into its half court sets, but you can clearly tell that without Phinisee, the Indiana backcourt is nowhere near its ceiling.

So far this season Phinisee is averaging 9.0 points and 4.5 assists per game, and a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnvoer ratio. He has put up games of six and seven assists as well.
