The Indiana football program is set to give head coach Tom Allen a new seven-year extension after a record-breaking season.
The 2019 regular season is over for the Indiana football program and with that comes a lot of recognition for Tom Allen. On Friday, the school announced that Allen and the University agreed to a new seven-year extension.
After leading Indiana to an 8-4 season, the best regular season in 26 years, and securing the most wins (18) in a head coaches first three seasons in IU history, Fred Glass and the rest of the University made it known that they were committed to him and the Indiana football program.
The seven-year extension will last through the 2026 season and will give Allen a fantastic upgrade from his previous contract. After sitting at the lowest annual salary in the Big Ten of $1.8 million per year, Allen will see his compensation increase to $3.9 million a year with other bonuses contingent on bowl victories as well as other incentives.
Indiana, who will make it back to a bowl game for the first time since 2016, made an appearance in the top-25 for the first time in 25 years, breaking the oldest drought in the entire country.
Following the official announcement, Allen had this to say regarding the new extension.
"“Thank you to Indiana University, our fans, the Bloomington community and all of Hoosier Nation for their support. I am so appreciative of the young men who represent IU in such a first-class manner. We have a tremendous group of players, I am proud to be their head coach, and I am 100-percent committed to their success on the field, in the classroom and in life. It’s no secret Indiana University is a special place to me. I was born a Hoosier, raised a Hoosier and I am thrilled with the opportunity to remain a Hoosier for a long, long time to come.”"
Following the end of the regular season, Allen was a name that was rumored to be linked to Florida State, due to his Florida ties, and Arkansas, amongst others. But now, it looks like Allen and the Indiana football program are here to stay.
Indiana will find out its bowl game matchup on Sunday after the entire bowl schedule is announced.
