Indiana Basketball: Thomas Bryant to miss 3 weeks with foot injury
By Alec Lasley
The former Indiana basketball standout is expected to miss time with a foot injury which he suffered early this week.
Thomas Bryant is having a great season thus far, but the former Indiana basketball standout will miss time due to a stress reaction in his foot.
The Washington Wizards big man reportedly had foot pain following Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, and after a series of tests, it was determined that Bryant would miss at least three weeks and then be re-evaluated. The timeline puts him with a possible return date of Dec. 26 at Detroit.
While a stress reaction is not the end of the world, the main cause for concern, which is why he is held out, is due to the results of it. If Bryant were to keep playing on it, it could lead to a stress fracture which is a much longer time spent out of action.
Already light on the depth in the front court, having Bryant miss time for the Wizards is not ideal. Head coach Scott Brooks addressed that issue before Tuesday night’s game.
"“T.B. is out,” Coach Scott Brooks said before the game. “Hopefully we’ll get good news [in three weeks]. We’ve got enough guys out there; we’re going to compete. Obviously we’re going to have to junk it up. Anybody have Don Nelson’s number? He might be able to help me.”"
Having a career year in his third season in the NBA, Bryant is averaging 13.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 28.4 minutes a game through 18 outings this year. Bryant also chipped in five double-doubles and all but three outings in double-digits scoring, while starting every game this season.
