Despite losing out on Dawson Garcia, one analyst believes Indiana basketball will add another member to its 2020 recruiting class.

The early signing period has come and gone and that means that going into the spring, the Indiana basketball program will likely still have at least one scholarship to play with. Whether or not it is used is up for discussion, but there are still a lot of options on the market.

With all three commits signing in the early signing period, it came down to the last day for the Hoosiers to see if they were going to secure a fourth, and final, commitment in the class. It came down to the end of Dawson Garcia’s recruitment, but he ultimately chose Marquette over the Hoosiers and others. Now, Indiana turns its attention to the spring and looks to possibly use up that final scholarship.

While options become limited on the high school front as the calendar turns to 2020, it also means graduate transfers become eligible and other transfers seek out other options. With Indiana’s desire to add a fourth member, but also its success with grad transfers in the past 10 years, it is a scenario that could happen.

Rivals’ analyst Corey Evans said it is a real possibility of adding another member to the class.

"“That is a solid three-man bunch, but also not all that will be needed in Bloomington for next season…. They [Indiana] could stand pat, but Archie Miller wants another primary ballhandler and rim presence. Neither options are easily answerable but the Hoosiers are definitely not done in 2020… Who might fill that spot remains up for debate and likely won’t be answered until the spring, whether it is via the decommitment, reclassification, international, or grad-transfer fronts.”"

Waiting until the spring is nothing new to the Indiana program. Joey Brunk, Romeo Langford, Evan Fitzner, Nick Zeisloft, Evan Gordon, and Max Bielfeldt are all names that Indiana secured commitments from as transfers, or incoming freshman in the late signing period and after the season.

So far, Carter Whitt and Khristian Lander are the two guards, and two recruits, that they are involved with that have a possibility of reclassifying to 2020.

Whether it is a ball handler or front court player, we will have to wait and see. Trayce Jackson-Davis’ play is something to monitor as the season develops though, as he has had a terrific start to his freshman season. He didn’t necessarily project as a one-and-done player when arriving on campus, but if he follows the trajectory he is currently on, it could be a possibility of him becoming the second straight freshman to leave Bloomington.
