Trayce Jackson-Davis will win Big Ten POY

Verdict: BUY

Jackson-Davis has been everything the Hoosiers could have hoped for and more. After a slow start where he only scored eight points against Western Illinois, he has scored in double figures in each of the last four games including a 20 point performance against North Alabama.

Jackson-Davis has been one of the most efficient scorers in the country this year shooting 76.7% from the field. He even had a perfect night from the field against Troy when he scored 17 points and added in 14 rebounds.

He already has two double-doubles on the year including that Troy game and is the top 20 in scoring in the Big Ten. On the year he is averaging 13.8 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. It is still to be seen if he can keep this up when the competition picks up but he has looked as good as any freshman in the Big Ten thus far.

His biggest challenger so far would be Kofi Cockburn from Illinois. Cockburn is averaging 15 points per game, but he is shooting 20% points lower than Jackson-Davis. Cockburn is also grabbing just over 12 rebounds per game and has double-digit boards in all but one game this year. They are similar players in the are great inside but don’t have an outside game.

The one wildcard could be Franz Wagner from Michigan. He is currently hurt but they have high hopes for him when he returns. He played with the German national team before enrolling at Michigan so he has a lot of experience against good competition.

Even with Cockburn playing great and Wagner looming, Jackson-Davis looks as good as anybody in respect to winning the Freshman of the year in the Big Ten. If he keeps up his play during the conference season he should be the favorite for the award.
