Indiana continues its great season Saturday at Penn State looking to go 8-2. If they get the win could College Gameday come to Bloomington?

ESPN’s College Gameday is the mecca of college football shows. They set up shop somewhere on the campus of what they consider the best game of the week. Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, and company do a four-hour show each Saturday morning.

They have been doing the show since the mid-1990s and have never gone to Indiana for a Saturday morning. They did come in 2017 for their opening game against Ohio State, but that was on a Thursday and while still a big deal, it just isn’t the same as a Saturday morning.

In fact, the Hoosiers have never had one of their games part of Gameday even when they have been on the road. Indiana has never been good enough to warrant that. The lack of winning seasons will do that to a school. At least they have had Gameday come once even if it was on a Thursday, as there are still a handful of teams that have never seen Gameday ever.

But Indiana looks to be good this year sporting a 7-2 record and could have possibly had Gameday show up to Happy Valley this week had it not been for undefeated Baylor heading to one-loss Oklahoma.

Could Indiana, though, get Gameday in Bloomington next week when they host Michigan? If you look at the list of games it is a definite possibility but they have to beat Penn State. Oh, and they need Michigan to beat Michigan State on Saturday also. But if both of those happen, it is not out of the question for ESPN to pick Bloomington as their next site.

A lot can change after next Saturday but the only games against ranked opponents in two weeks are Penn State at Ohio State and SMU at Navy. The Gameday crew has already done an SMU game when they went to Memphis and lost. It’s possible that they head to Navy but it is rare for them to do a mid-major team twice in one year.

That leaves the obvious choice of Penn State and Ohio State. But what if Indiana beats Penn State? That would be the second straight loss for the Nittany Lions and they would be out of the picture for the Big Ten championship and it is very possible Indiana could jump them in the polls.

If Michigan takes care of their rival Michigan State, you would have a Wolverines team near or in the top 10 against an IU team undoubtedly in the top 20 and sporting their first eight-win season since 1993.

IU ranked for the first time since 1994. dark. Next

They could choose to go to an FCS game as they did earlier this year when they went to South Dakota State when they hosted North Dakota State, but the opportunity to go to Bloomington might be too much to pass up.

It is obviously far from a definite, but if Indiana can pull the upset this weekend at Penn State, there is a very real possibility Gameday heads to Bloomington on the 23rd of November. Get excited Hoosier fans, this is a great time to be an Indiana football fan.
