Indiana basketball improved to 2-0 with its win over Portland State on Saturday and here are the main takeaways from the win.

The Hoosiers got another win under their belt on Saturday to improve to 2-0, but it may not have been the smoothest win for the Indiana basketball program.

With the 11-point victory, Indiana showed a lot of positives down the stretch, but still struggled in multiple areas, all of which is expected this early in the season.

Archie Miller was very adamant after the game that the defense still has a lot to improve on, and while the Hoosiers won’t face a lot of stiff competition until December, there will be many more games with a lot of learning for this young Indiana team.

While Indiana has found a new duo in Justin Smith and Al Durham – averaging 39.5 points per game combined – there are still a lot of new roles developing and once Devonte Green returns from his injury, there will be another learning curve and adjustment period for the Hoosiers.

The Indiana front court has proved to be a valuable part of the team, with the great depth that it has, but it was shown on Saturday that some guys may be left out of receiving significant minutes moving forward.

Despite all of that, Indiana still needs to play games and win them, and have a quick turnaround when North Alabama comes into Assembly Hall on Tuesday.

Here are three takeaways from the Indiana win against Portland State on Saturday.
