Indiana Basketball: Five former players who could have benefited from profiting from their likeness
By Adam Childs
2. Calbert Cheaney
Cheaney is arguably the best basketball player to ever play for the Indiana Hoosiers. He was a three-time All American selection and won the National POY award in 1993. He is still the all-time Big Ten leading scorer with 2,613 points.
Cheaney led the Hoosiers to the Final Four in 1992. The Hoosiers dominated the Big Ten when he was there also winning the league three times. Besides not winning a national title it was one of the most dominate times in Hoosier basketball history.
Cheaney was an Indiana raised product from Evansville. He was very popular while at IU and being in his home state helped as well.
He was a smooth shooting left-hander that was nearly impossible to stop. He has also had a great presence about him and from all takes was a great teammate.
Cheaney was nationally recognized all throughout college and would have been a natural in being able to do endorsements or appearances to make money. Being one of the best players in the country every year in college has its benefits and Cheaney would have been able to cash in.
Couple the fact that the Hoosiers were always in the top 10 while he was there and he was a household name.
If it weren’t for the hometown legend of the next guy Cheaney would have been the one that would have gained the most from this new ruling.
