2. Don’t Be As Concerned About The Turnovers

Look, we all know turnovers have been an issue for this Indiana program over the past couple of seasons, but looking at tonight, and even against Marquette, it’s easy to give them a pass.

Without Phinisee for most of the preseason, in scrimmages or practice, it is to be expected that the offense may not run as smoothly as it will come the middle of the season. Add in the fact that Devonte Green has been in and out of practice and Al Durham missing Tuesday’s exhibition as well, and it’s easy to see why the Hoosiers were sloppy with the ball.

We touched on Armaan Franklin’s ability to play the point, and the efficiency he played with, but he is still a freshman and he will have his freshman moments. Outside of Franklin, guys like Damezi Anderson, Justin Smith and Jerome Hunter were doing extended amounts of handling the ball, something they won’t do come the regular season.

One point that will help is that when Green comes back, and plays alongside Durham, the floor spacing will be much better than it was on Tuesday.

With four forwards and one guard for a majority of the game, there was a lack of floor spacing that caused a lot of forced drives. With sub par ball handlers driving into multiple defenses, there is bound to be turnovers.

16 turnovers against Marquette, and 14 turnovers against Gannon, you can tell there is rust and will be something that should get better.
