The Indiana basketball program was back and came away with a win, despite not playing great. Here are the three takeaways from the exhibition win on Tuesday.

Basketball is back as the Indiana basketball program was back in Assembly Hall for the first time in nearly seven months for Tuesday’s exhibition against Gannon University, as the Hoosiers came away with an 84-54 win.

It was the second ‘live’ action against an opponent this fall, with the other being a three-point loss to Marquette last week, and you could tell there is still a lot of rust with most of the players.

While it was assumed both Devonte Green and Rob Phinisee would be sidelined for the exhibition game, it was actually Green and Al Durham who were held out, while the sophomore point guard, Phinisee, saw his first action of the preseason.

It was a rocky first half for the Hoosiers as Gannon kept it close all 20 minutes, even taking the lead twice late in the half, ultimately giving it up with a late run by Indiana.

In the second half, Indiana got off to a quick start right out of the gates and took hold of the game early on.

The Hoosiers ended up stretching the lead to 20+ points midway through the half, mainly by going inside and using their size advantage – were in the bonus with 13+ minutes left in the half – something they went away from in the first 20 minutes.

Overall, five players for the Hoosiers got into double-figures on the night.

There is a lot to build on before next Tuesday’s season opener and the Hoosiers will hopefully be fully healthy by then.
