Indiana Basketball: 5 takeaways from scrimmage vs Marquette
By Alec Lasley
5. Are Turnovers Going To Be An Issue All Season?
Look, I’m not going to be too hard on the Hoosiers with their loose handles, but it will be something to watch as we get into the season.
Obviously without Rob Phinisee and Devonte Green, it limits the amount of players that Indiana truly feels comfortable handling the ball, and so I don’t think the 16 turnovers in the scrimmage are that big of a deal.
Right away the thing that jumps out is the four times Jerome Hunter and three times Armaan Franklin turned the ball over, both easy fixes.
With Hunter, as touched on earlier, rust is expected so even if it’s just him dribbling off of his foot or being loose with the ball, that is a number that should be better as the season rolls around.
As for Franklin, this is a freshman guard who isn’t a true point guard, that was expected to play a major amount of minutes with the ball in his hands. He won’t be asked to do that in any game this season.
So if you cut those seven turnovers in half from those two, which is what will most likely happen during the season, the additions of the true ball handlers of Green and Phinisee will only make the turnovers more limited.
