The Indiana basketball program took the court for the first time, unofficially, on Sunday as the 2019-20 season quickly approaches as they took on Marquette in the preseason ‘secret scrimmage’.
While no media were allowed in the arena for the game, the box score was released to the public, allowing for a lot to dissect.
Despite the 72-69 loss, as the Hoosiers were shorthanded as the starting backcourt of Rob Phinisee and Devonte Green were held out of the game, minor injuries, a lot of the newcomers had very good first showings.
Even though Indiana returned a lot of the roster from a season ago, the majority of the roles are entirely different from last year.
Whether it be Al Durham expected to play more point guard, or Damezi Anderson and Race Thompson expected to contribute and be crucial members of the rotation this year, it was the first action for all involved to feel it out.
Given everything, without the starting backcourt, the first action against someone other than their teammates, and there still being a couple of weeks to go before the start of the season, it was a good showing for the Hoosiers.
