Indiana played Rutgers on Saturday in a game they needed to win. They not only won the game they dominated a shorthanded Rutgers team winning 35-0.

Rutgers traveled to Bloomington on Saturday to take on the Hoosiers without their top two offensive players. Starting quarterback Artur Sitkowski and running back Raheem Blackshear both decided to take a redshirt after the fourth game of the year. This left the Scarlet Knights severely shorthanded and the Hoosiers took advantage.

Indiana needed to jump on Rutgers early and that is exactly what they did scoring three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of the game. The first was a fumble return touchdown just 10 seconds into the game and then two touchdown passes by Michael Penix Jr.

It looked like the Hoosiers would run up the score but the offense struggled to score points after that scoring just two more touchdowns in the third quarter for the final score of 35-0. While the offense remained fairly quiet after the early part of the game the defense stepped up.

The Hoosiers allowed only 75 total yards against the Scarlet Knights including just one-yard passing. Rutgers does not have any playmakers on the offensive side of the ball but this was still very impressing by the Hoosiers defense.

Offensively Penix threw for 282 yards on 20-29 passing. His favorite was Whop Philyor once again as he had a game-high 10 receptions for 182 yards. Stevie Scott III had a good game on the ground rushing for 164 yards on just 12 carries.

Peyton Hendershot, Nick Westbrook, and Ty Frygogle all reeled in touchdown catches for the Hoosiers. Sampson Jones capped the scoring by running one in from a yard out in the third quarter.

It was a win the Hoosiers had to have and they got it with relative ease. Now they head on the road to take a who just got blown out by Purdue 40-14. Indiana will look to make it one game closer to a bowl game if they can get that road win.

The Hoosiers have to be happy with this game and the star of Penix and Philyor continue to shine.
