Indiana Football vs Rutgers: Game time, TV channel, odds, prediction, and more
By Alec Lasley
Coming out of a bye week, Indiana football welcomes Rutgers to Bloomington for its homecoming game. Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup.
Indiana football takes the field again this week as the bye week came and went, and now look to bounce back from losing two of the last three games.
With a very inconsistent season thus far, Indiana had a week to improve on a few aspects of their game and look to win its first homecoming game in nine years.
Rutgers is a perfect opponent to play out of a bye week, especially now. Not only down to a third string QB in Johnny Langan, Rutgers is also on to a new coach after Chris Ash was fired two weeks ago.
If that isn’t enough, Raheem Blackshear, Rutgers’ best player, decided to redshirt this season, a shocking decision to the entire Rutgers staff and leaves the Scarlet Knights with very few options on the offensive side of the ball.
As of now, Rutgers is led by sophomore running back Isaih Pacheco who is quite honestly the only offensive weapon that should scare any power-five team. After a 158 yard performance in week one, Pacheco has combined for just 184 in the four games since as defenses start to zone in on him in their gameplan.
Rutgers has been outscored 130-7 in three Big Ten games this season and have given up at least 30 points in all three, stats that probably won’t get any better this weekend.
Storylines
Indiana: How does IU respond after its bye week? Will the running game finally take off? How much action will Tiawan Mullen get in the secondary? James Head and the defensive line is finally starting to assert themselves; will they keep it up? Indiana can’t beat themselves with turnovers and penalties, that’s the only way Rutgers remains in the game.
Rutgers: Is Johnny Langan any more comfortable as a pocket passer in his second career start? Who steps up on the offensive side of the ball outside of Isaih Pacheco? Does Nunzio Campanile get Pacheco more involved in the passing game?
