The Indiana basketball program continues to push hard with multiple in-state targets in the 2021 class, but one Blue Blood has just made things a bit more interesting for one prospect.

Archie Miller and the Indiana basketball program have a big weekend upcoming with Hoosier Hysteria as well as playing host to multiple 2020 commits and top targets in the 2021 class.

With the 2020 class securing commitments from three wing players, Miller has focused a lot of his time on hybrid forwards and traditional big men over the past couple of weeks. One of those forwards is Trey Kaufman, the No. 29 player in the 247Sports 2021 class rankings.

The Silver Creek HS standout is one of the best players in the country, but has seen his recruitment somewhat fly under the radar thus far, until now.

Kentucky is the newest program to enter the race for Kaufman as UK assistant Joel Justus visited the four-star forward this week and secured an unofficial visit from Kaufman for Big Blue Madness on Oct 12.

While Archie Miller has been on top of Kaufman’s recruitment throughout nearly the past year, the draw of John Calipari and Kentucky can’t be denied, especially when it comes to hybrid forwards such as Kaufman.

Whether it be Terrance Jones, Michael Kid-Gilchrist, Alex Poythress, Trey Lyles, Wenyen Gabriel, or PJ Washington, you get the point, Calipari has had a long track record of sending hybrid forwards to the NBA after having success in college.

Kaufman fits that exact mold, and reminds me a lot of Lyles, at one time a former Indiana commit, and PJ Washington with his ability to play both the inside and out, with some guard skills in his arsenal.

Though there is still a long way to go in Kaufman’s recruitment, the idea of Kentucky now getting involved could be a game changer for the in-state talent.

Kaufman is on another one of his many visits to Indiana this weekend, when he will take part in IU’s Hoosier Hysteria festivities.
