Indiana Football: 3 players who need increased role after bye week
By Alec Lasley
Nick Westbrook
The senior wideout has had an extremely quiet season thus far, a far cry from his near 1,000 yard season in just 2016.
What Westbrook is known best for, his deep threat ability, is something not being taken advantage of and needs to be changed immediately.
Obviously there was a change in the gameplan when Michael Penix missed time, as Peyton Ramsey has shown he doesn’t have the same arm strength and accuracy on deep throws as Penix, thus hurting Westbrook’s big play ability.
However, his two catch for three yard performance against Michigan State on Saturday with Penix under center was something I never thought I would see out of Westbrook.
Outside of his 75-yard touchdown grab in week one against Ball State, Westbrook has just nine catches for 94 yards on the remainder of the season and no other reception over 20 yards.
With Whop Philyor becoming a huge threat near the line of scrimmage with his yards after catch ability, and Peyton Hendershot a near reception every time in the 5-10 yard passes, having a big play threat is needed and that is what Nick Westbrook does best.
The Indiana offense is definitely hitting its stride, but adding the deep ball will only take the lid off the offensive potential.
