Indiana Football vs MSU: Game time, TV channel, odds, prediction, and more
By Alec Lasley
After the win against UConn, Indiana football goes on the road for the first time in 2019. Here’s everything you need to know about the matchup against Michigan State.
The Hoosiers bounced back nicely last week against UConn to improve to 3-1 on the young season, but now Big Ten play begins and Indiana won’t have much time to ease into it. The main question heading into this week however, is who will be under center for the Indiana football program?
Micheal Penix remains a game-time decision, but returning to practice this week for the first time since his injury means he is trending in the right direction.
This could be an interesting matchup for the Spartans due to the three straight games against ranked opponents following this Saturday, including two of them being on the road. If MSU takes this game lightly, it could not only be a major hit to its season, but could send this year into a downward spiral quick.
Mark Dantonio has always had a terrific defense, but the offense has been the unit that has struggled over the past few seasons. This year is really no different. The Michigan State Spartans are just about as inconsistent as last season as they have put together 51-point and 31-point outings but also a game in which they scored just seven points.
For the Hoosiers, if Peyton Ramsey is under center, I don’t believe it hurts the offense as much as it would against some other opponents, but as noted, Penix brings the big play ability that could win the game off of just a few plays.
Storylines
Indiana: Can the Hoosiers get that signature win this season? How will they react to the first true road test of the season? Will Michael Penix play, and if so how effective will he be? The running attack needs to build on its best performance all season against UConn, but they can’t abandon it early if it’s not working. Need the big play ability of Nick Westbrook and Donavan Hale to show up this year, will it be on Saturday?
Michigan State: Will the offense build on its best performance last week against Northwestern? How will Brian Lewerke react to pressure? Will the depleted o-line hold up? If MSU gets up early, it could be a long day for IU with the Spartans lethal rushing attack. Look for the Spartans to bring pressure and stack the box on the defensive side of the ball.
