Indiana Basketball: 2021 IU target named potential riser in class
By Alec Lasley
As 247Sports came out with its updated 2021 rankings, one Indiana basketball target could see a rise in his rankings in the future.
It’s the time of year where we are gearing up for high school and college basketball season and the rankings that come with it. For one Indiana basketball target, he is one to watch as the season develops.
247Sports updated its class of 2021 player rankings and for Blake Wesley, he is a prospect that recruiting analyst Brian Snow wants to keep an eye on.
"“Now the question with Wesley is, how consistent can he get with his jumper. He already has a decent looking shooting stroke, but the results can be extremely hit or miss. If Wesley can refine the jump shot, then he has a chance to make a big move forward in the rankings.” Explained Snow."
What makes Wesley so intriguing to many high-majors is his versatility on both ends of the floor. At 6-foot-5, and still growing, Wesley continues to work on his point guard skills. With the ability to play in the backcourt or out on the wing, his positionless basketball is exactly what Archie Miller loves out of his guards and wings.
Some of those high-major schools are Purdue, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Xavier, Butler and Cincinnati, amongst others.
"“In the Midwest, one prospect who has the upside to see a major jump if things come together is Wesley. Wesley is a big guard who is almost 6-foot-5, has great length, an ability to handle the basketball, and is excellent at getting to places on the court using his dribble.” Snow said."
Up one spot in the new rankings, No. 87 in the class of 2021, Wesley is a four-star guard who up to this point is still slightly underrated.
Indiana has made quick work of Wesley and made it a point to prioritize him in the 2021 class. Since offering him at the end of July, both Indiana and Wesley have shared a mutual interest which has progressed into finalizing details for a visit to Bloomington later this fall.
Current IU wing Damezi Anderson was teammates with Wesley at Riley High School (South Bend, IN), and Anderson’s younger brother is currently on the Riley roster playing alongside Wesley. The Wesley family also has connections to Bloomington as his mom graduated from Indiana as well.
Wesley had a solid summer for G3 Grind on the Under Armour AAU circuit, averaging 11.8 points on 57 percent from the field and 45 percent from three.
