Indiana basketball’s top priority in 2020, Five-star forward Dawson Garcia, trimmed his list on Tuesday, which included the Hoosiers.

The Indiana basketball program took a step in the right direction with one big man in the 2020 class on Tuesday, as the Hoosiers were included in the five-star’s top-7 list.

Announced on Twitter, Dawson Garcia included North Carolina, Arizona, Memphis, Minnesota, Kansas, and Marquette in addition to Indiana.

Garcia has been a top priority for Archie Miller in recent weeks after locking up Jordan Geronimo, Anthony Leal, and Trey Galloway – all wing players – as the front court depth is a concern moving forward.

The 6-foot-10 forward is one of the most highly skilled front court players in the class with his ability to play on the inside as well as on the perimeter. The lefty has terrific footwork that allows him to beat opponents off the block, while using an arsenal of moves in the post.

What makes Garcia so effective is his ability to stretch the floor. He has a great shooting touch from three, but also utilizes a decent floater in the lane.

As a junior, Garcia averaged 27.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game for Prior Lake (MN).

Ranked as the No. 22 player in the 2020 class by 247Sports, recruiting analyst Brian Snow went in detail about his game.

"Length allows him to block shots, and he is a capable rebounder. As he gets stronger, all parts of his game should begin to come together. He isn’t an elite athlete, but he does have solid explosion off the court. He is very skilled. Can make shots out to the three-point line, is very good going off the dribble, and also can pass. His upside is significant, and he does have a little bit more potential than production. Keeps improving and has an excellent chance to stick in the NBA for a long time."

Touched on before, Indiana does have some connections to Garcia. IU assistant Tom Ostrom is from the same area of Minnesota as Garcia and previously pouched current Hoosier Race Thompson from the same area, as well as same AAU program, D1 Minnesota.

Garcia is expected to take an official visit to Indiana sometime this fall, but his recruitment is one that will drag on until the spring.
