After receiving news of Jordan Geronimo’s commitment on Monday, the Indiana basketball program lost out on fellow four-star Matt Cross as he committed to Miami.

As the summer is winding down, so are the number of available targets for the Indiana basketball program. After being involved with a handful of players just a few months ago, three commitments to IU and a couple that went elsewhere have put Archie Miller and the Hoosiers in a bit of a recruiting halt.

Four-star wing Jordan Geronimo committed to Indiana on Monday night which tilted the scale when it came to the recruitment of Matt Cross and his ultimate commitment to Miami. The Hoosiers were atop the list along with Miami for the four-star forward, but his desire to play on the wing put Indiana in a tough spot after landing Geronimo. Now, Indiana’s target pool is extremely small, but with Miller’s desire to land a “four-to-six” man class, where does IU turn now?

Caleb Love is a name that most Indiana fans know now, but the five-star guard may be a sure bet to land at North Carolina, despite having four other visits planned including one to Bloomington. Because of that, Indiana offered 2021 point-guard Carter Whitt last week. Whitt has been open about the possibility of reclassifying into the 2020 class, and could be someone who Indiana puts more emphasis on moving forward in order to solidify the point guard position.

Outside of those two, there are very few other backcourt targets that the Hoosiers are actively pursuing.

When it comes to the front court, a major point of emphasis to end the 2020 class, the Hoosiers have two other options as well with five-star big man Dawson Garcia, and four-star big Zach Loveday. Despite the lack of information coming from Loveday, who was just on a visit to Louisville this past weekend, he has already taken an unofficial to Bloomington this summer and still has the Hoosiers involved in his recruitment.

That brings us to Dawson Garcia. The Minnesota native has yet to name a final list or set any official visits, but Indiana has a good shot at landing a visit by all accounts. Indiana has been one of the teams on him the longest and with the need to land a front court player, there would be ample playing time right away.

Garcia played for D1 Minnesota on the AAU circuit, which was the same program that current Hoosiers big man Race Thompson was apart of during his AAU days.

Expect the Hoosiers to do anything and everything they can to get a visit from Garcia, something that will be difficult with the blue bloods recruiting him as well. A decision from Garcia won’t likely come until the spring, so it could be a long waiting game for the Hoosiers.

Indiana’s 2020 recruiting class currently sits at No. 4 in the country according to 247Sports.
