Indiana Football: Report card grades from Ball State win
By Alec Lasley
Special Teams
Definitely the best part of Saturday’s matchup against the Cardinals was the special teams unit.
Led by Logan Justus, the special teams may have easily won the Hoosiers the game. Justus knocked in four field goals, including 48, 49, and 50 yarders, all setting new career-highs.
Even though the Hoosiers offense was forced to punt just three times, senior punter Haydon Whitehead showed off his leg every time. A 63-yard punt headlined the afternoon, but he did finish with a 51.7 yard average on the day.
The only two blemishes on the day were on the kickoff’s, with two kicks going out-of-bounds giving Ball State good field position to start.
If the Hoosiers can get this type of play from the special teams unit all year, it will not only take pressure off of the offense, but also the defense by setting themselves up with a field position advantage all game long.
