Indiana Football: 3 takeaways from Ball State win

3. Logan Justus proves invaluable for IU offense
Coaches always say the special teams unit will win or lose the game and quite honestly that’s what it came down to yesterday for Indiana.
At times the offense was unable to convert in the redzone, whether it be drops by the wide receivers, or just an inability to execute, but kicker Logan Justus made up for it and kept the momentum on Indiana’s side.
The Big Ten All Second-Team in 2018 connected on15-of-18 field goals last season, and even outperformed his 2018 play, yesterday. He made three career-high kicks of 48, 49, and 50 yards, and finished with four made field goals on the day.
It’s always a huge addition to an offense when your kicker has the ability to make 45+ yard field goals. It not only allows your offense to play more freely in the redzone, knowing they have a terrific kicker on the sideline, but it also gives the offensive coordinator a much more open playbook knowing they may not need to advance the ball as far down field in order to get in scoring range.
If Justus can continue to make at this rate, and with this much consistency, the already powerful Indiana offense will be more lethal and could win the game on the leg of Justus a couple of times this season.
