Indiana Football vs Ball State: Game time, TV channel, radio, odds, and more
By Alec Lasley
The Indiana football program is set to take on Ball state on Saturday, and this is everything you need to know about the matchup.
Indiana football is back! The 2019 football season gets underway today for the Hoosiers as they take a short trip up the road to get to Lucas Oil Stadium for the matchup against Ball State.
Tom Allen enters his third season as the head coach and this season has all the makings of a breakout year; and it starts on Saturday.
Ball State enters the matchup after a 4-8 season in 2018 but return a lot of talent from a season ago outside of The man under center. Riley Neal transferred to Vanderbilt which leaves Drew Plitt as the starter. The entire offensive line returns for the Cardinals as well as seven of the top eight receiving options from a season ago.
With the running attack lacking, two-time first team all-conference grad transfer Walter Fletcher looks to be in the mix early as a Division II standout from Edinboro University, who finished in the top-5 in rushing yards in both 2017 and 2018. Caleb Huntley returns as a 1,000 yard rusher his freshman season, but someone who missed half of the season in 2018 due to injury. The remaining two running backs on the roster have combined for just 69 carries in just 20 career games played.
On the flip side, nine starters are coming back from the defense, a unit that allowed just 210 passing yards per game last year.
While the defense should carry the offense early on, with Plitt trying to get his footing, Indiana’s skill positions should be able to get free at times.
Last Matchup: Indiana 38, Ball State 10 (2018)
A week three matchup that took place in Bloomington a season ago, the Hoosiers dominated the game from start to finish and it was due to Ball State going nearly 25 minutes of game action without a first down, from the first quarter until the 3:00 minute mark of the third.
Ball state failed to get much pressure on the Hoosiers with no sacks and giving up 255 rushing yards, including 114 from Stevie Scott.
The two starting quarterbacks in 2018’s matchup are no longer the starters for their respective teams, but the new starters both saw action last season. Michael Penix went 4-for-5 for 29 passing yards and also ran for 13 yards. For Ball State, Drew Plitt was 2-for-4 for 28 yards and one interception.
