Former Indiana basketball star freshman Romeo Langford received his NBA 2k ranking and some were taken back by the number.

Though none of the 2019 NBA draft class has played a single second of meaningful basketball in the NBA, the public always sets their expectations way before they need to. With NBA 2k, the video game that almost everyone has played in their lifetime, they released the rest of their player ratings and some may be taken back by Indiana basketball’s Romeo Langford and the rating he received.

With a rating a 72 for the former top-five talent coming out of high school, many people, like the tweet above, are sighted by the “disrespectful” rating. Quite honestly, I really don’t believe it is a “disrespectful” rating at all.

Looking at how the 14th overall pick compares to some of the other lottery picks, North Carolina’s Coby White who was taken 7th overall by the Chicago Bulls comes in at 76, and Texas Tech’s Jarrett Culver is rated 77 after being taken 6th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. If you try to tell me, based on how everything went down during the 2018-19 college basketball season that Langford should be ranked at the same level, or higher than the other two, then that is slightly unreasonable.

In comparison, Kentucky’s Tyler Herro is rated a 73 after being selected No. 13 by the Miami Heat. One of the biggest surprises of draft night was when the Phoenix Suns selected Cameron Johnson from North Carolina 11th overall. His ranking is 72 as well and he had one of the best seasons in college basketball history from behind the three-point line.

Langford is coming off a couple of injuries and a surgery that kept him out of the summer league, and because he has yet to play a second of basketball in a Celtics jersey, I don’t find anything wrong with the ranking. Zion Williamson is rated 81, so I find it hard to believe that anyone can make a legitimate argument that Langford should be ranked higher than his current rating, as I think his is very reasonable for the situation.
