Indiana Football: 2020 commits to climb recruiting ranks as seniors
By Alec Lasley
These two 2020 Indiana football commit are expected to see a rise in their ranking once their senior seasons are over according to one 247Sports analyst.
While the basketball program has received a lot of good news over the past month, there is one Indiana football commit that could be in store for a huge senior year and see a rise in his rankings.
Lemuel Neely-Watley committed to Indiana back in late June and has been one recruit that could end up seeing a rise in his ranking by the time he steps foot on campus. 247Sports recruiting analyst Allen Trieu put together a list of 10 midwest seniors who have an opportunity to climb the rankings as a senior, and took a look at the 2020 IU commit.
"“After playing at Detroit King last year, Indiana commit Lemuel Neely-Watley is at Harper Woods (Mich.) this season. Neely-Watley was a star at East English Village Prep as a sophomore and not that he was bad as a junior, but on a loaded King team, he did not have the opportunities to make as much of an impact on offense and special teams as he did as a sophomore. At Harper Woods, we expect him to be a force at receiver, corner and as a return man and see him having an All-State type senior year.”"
While Neely-Watley plays both defensive back and wide receiver, there is a high probability that he sticks to cornerback at Indiana after showcasing his corner skills at many camps over the summer. He still has the skills to play wide receiver in the Big Ten though, and could ultimately play both at times throughout his career.
Teammates last year with another 2020 Indiana commit, Rashawn Williams at Martin Luther King H.S., Trieu had this to say about Neely-Watley after watching him at a game this past fall.
"“East St. Louis only threw at Lemuel Neely-Watley sparingly in the first half. In the 2nd half, they tried his side more and the 2020 prospect came away with two interceptions. He played almost exclusively wide receiver at East English Village Prep a year ago, but showed corner skills at camps and workouts. He is a playmaker who exudes confidence and still catches the ball like a receiver.”"
Currently Lemuel Neely-Watley is ranked a three-star prospect and No. 932 overall in the class.
Offensive lineman Coleon Smith was listed as well with 247Sports saying, “he was a guy who outperformed his season film in camp settings which led to him going from zero offers to a handful of Power 5 during the summer.”
