Indiana Basketball: Anthony Leal stays home, commits to Indiana
By Alec Lasley
The Indiana basketball program lands their second commitment in the last month as Anthony Leal commits to the Hoosiers.
The good news keeps on rolling in for Archie Miller and the Indiana basketball program as they received another commitment to their 2020 recruiting class on Friday.
Anthony Leal, Bloomington South native, took to twitter to make his announcement.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the four-star guard named Indiana and Stanford as his two finalists, but many thought that his recruitment could still drag on for upwards of a couple of months. Now, the Hoosiers land their highest recruit of the 2020 class.
Archie Miller put on a full court press for Leal, the top ranked player in Indiana, soon after an in-home visit in the spring, something that seemed to turn Leal’s recruitment in Indiana’s favor.
As a junior at Bloomington South High School, Leal averaged 19.9 points per game and led a talented squad to the 4A regional final, coming up short to current Indiana freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis.
The 6-foot-5 guard had a solid summer with Indiana Elite, averaging 12.2 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from three.
247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Snow recently described Leal’s game.
"“Leal is known as an extremely high-motor player who is a good shooter, and a solid athlete. He finished his summer with Indiana Elite extremely strong at the adidas Gauntlet Finale, where he was one of the top performers at the entire event. At around 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Leal is a physical wing who has defensive potential, and also should be a very good shooter in college, though at this current time his shot can be a little bit inconsistent.”"
Leal joins former Indiana Elite teammate Trey Galloway in Indiana’s 2020 recruiting class. Leal is ranked No. 96 in 247Sports Composite Rankings.
