The 2020 defensive lineman is set to announce his decision in the near future, but analysts believe Indiana football is the team to beat.
The defensive line is a position of need for the Hoosiers in the 2020 class, currently sitting with zero commits, but good news could be on the way from one of their top targets in the class.
Deontae Craig is one of the top defensive ends in the country and has been reported to be nearing decision. As it stands, it had seemed to be a two man race between Indiana and Big Ten counterpart Iowa, but with some of the recent developments, it looks like Indiana may be the team that is out in front.
A dual-sport athlete, Craig plays alongside current Indiana basketball commit Trey Galloway at Culver Academies and is a fine basketball player in his own right. As a junior, Craig averaged 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. There have been some rumors and reports that Iowa would not offer Craig a walk-on spot on the basketball roster, whereas the Hoosiers would.
In addition, there have been five 247Sports Crystal Balls put in over the last 24 hours, all of which are in Indiana’s favor. The most notable out of all five of them is Steve Wiltfong, the Director of Football Recruiting for 247Sports. In addition, two HawkeyeInsider.com writers put their picks in for the Hoosiers.
All of the recent developments with Craig previously stating how much he enjoyed his visit to Indiana in June saying, “I definitely love it there,” makes it seem like a perfect fit.
Michigan, Michigan State, and Northwestern are other schools that are still involved with Craig, but the Hoosiers look to be the clear favorite as it stands now.
Craig is currently a three-star prospect ranked No. 582 in 247Sports Composite rankings.
