The former Indiana basketball guard is still recovering from thumb surgery but continues to develop and show signs of improvement.

It has been quite a while since former Indiana basketball guard Romeo Langford has played in a basketball game but the Boston Celtics remain confident and energized by his improvement this summer.

Langford had surgery to repair damage to his thumb that he played all of his freshman season with, averaging 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Not playing in the Vegas Summer League due to the recovery from his surgery, the Celtics’ Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge gave an update on Langford’s progress.

"“(Langford’s) been in Boston around our training staff, getting his hands stronger and stronger,” Ainge told Robb. “He continues to do a lot of on-court skill work. Still, not quite 100 percent live, but he’s getting a lot of work in and trying to get ready.”"

The 6-foot-6 wing was drafted No. 14 overall and is expected to compete for minutes in the early stages of his career. The lack of live action isn’t concerning for the Celtics however.

"“Romeo has a lot of talent,” Ainge said. “He’s working really hard. With all young players, you never really know when it’s going to click. Whether it’s in training camp, the start of the season, middle of the season or next season, like… You never really know when the opportunity is going to intersect with their development. I believe in Romeo’s future. He’s going to get there and he’s working really hard to achieve it.”"

Despite not going against actual defenders, Langford has progressed nicely working on his shot with Celtics assistant coach Joe Mazzulla. It’s been widely known the struggles Langford had at Indiana with his three-point shot, and time will tell whether it was due to the thumb injury or just an inconsistency in his form.

The Celtics look to have a fully healthy Langford by the start of training camp in the coming months.
