Indiana Football: 2020 DE target Deontae Craig nearing a decision
By Alec Lasley
Less than a week after securing a basketball commit from Culver Academies, the Indiana football program tries to do the same.
With no defensive line commits for the 2020 class the Indiana football program is looking to secure a commitment from one of their top targets, and is set for another big announcement in the near future. 2020 DE Deontae Craig is not only one of the best players in Indiana, but is one of the top defensive ends in the country.
Reported by Sean Bock of Hawkeye Insider, Iowa’s 247Sports site, he is nearing a decision and it could come within the next week.
While Craig has had a wide range or programs involved in his recruitment, it has seemed to be narrowed down to two as of late, Indiana and Iowa. This summer, Craig has taken an official visit to both Iowa and Indiana, while officially visiting Tennessee in April.
He previously stated how much he enjoyed his visit to Indiana in June saying, “I definitely love it there.”
While the Hoosiers and Hawkeyes are the clear frontrunners and Tennessee seems to be in a far away second tier, Michigan, Michigan State, and Northwestern are other schools that are still involved with Craig.
If you go by strictly roster makeup, Indiana is the clear choice as Iowa already has five commits from projected defensive ends at the college level. While Craig has the skillset to beat them out, with zero commits currently for Indiana, you have to think the ability to come in and have ample playing time immediately has to be appealing.
Craig also plays with current Indiana basketball commit Trey Galloway on the basketball floor, as he has mulled over the decision about being a two-sport athlete in college. While that probably isn’t the ideal case, it is still fun to think about them reuniting in Assembly Hall.
