The Indiana basketball program received their first commitment of the 2020 class on Friday. What exactly will Trey Galloway bring to the table?

Archie Miller’s 2020 recruiting class kicked off on Friday with Trey Galloway announcing his pledge to the Indiana basketball program, which could cause a domino effect with a couple of other targets. Until then, however, it’s all about Galloway.

The Culver Academies guard averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game in his junior season, and followed that up with an impressive summer, averaging 16.1 points per game on 61.4 percent shooting and 42.9 percent from three.

Archie Miller pledged his commitment to in-state recruiting when he took over the head coaching position at Indiana, and he has done just that since day one. With Galloway’s commitment, he became the sixth in-state talent to commit to the Hoosiers under Archie Miller.

What exactly will Galloway bring to Indiana?

Just about everything. The two-way guard is a versatile player that will be able to compete at a high level in the Big Ten.

Offensively, Galloway is big enough at 6-foot-5 to play a couple of positions. With Archie Miller’s system putting an emphasis on multiple guard lineups, his ability to play two or three different positions will allow the versatility Miller loves.

Though Galloway didn’t shoot the ball great during his high school season, a wrist injury could’ve been attributed to that. He bounced back, however, shooting 43 percent in 16 games with Indiana Elite on the Adidas Gauntlet AAU Circuit.

Galloway is also a very underrated athlete. With the ability to finish with either hand, his length allows him to get his shot off in traffic.

Don’t underestimate his passing and playmaking ability either. Though not a point guard, Galloway’s ability to create easy looks for his teammates will allow the Hoosiers’ offensive to be much more than the one-dimensional type system they have had thus far.

Galloway’s best tools may be on the defensive end though. His size and frame make him versatile enough to guard multiple positions and his length makes it difficult on opponents to get an easy look on drives or jumpers. He also has a knack for getting in the passing lanes and getting out in transition.

Lastly, Galloway’s IQ and toughness is what made Archie Miller fall in love with him throughout his recruitment. A coaches son, Galloway will be a fan favorite in no time with the heart he plays with on the floor.

Though Galloway is the only commit in the 2020 class right now, decisions for Matt Cross and Anthony Leal are approaching and Indiana has a great chance at landing one, if not both, to add to their class.
