Indiana Basketball: Utah Jazz sign Juwan Morgan to contract
By Alec Lasley
The former Indiana basketball player spent the summer league with the Jazz, and now gets a chance to prove himself in training camp.
Another former Indiana basketball player will take his talents to the NBA and suit up for a team in training camp, as Juwan Morgan made it official and signed with the Utah Jazz.
Morgan, signing with the Jazz as an undrafted free agent after the draft, averaged 4.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in the Vegas Summer League, playing in 17 minutes per game.
For his current contract, it is an Exhibit 10 contract which is a one-year deal for the minimum salary. It means he will receive a training camp invite and then most likely a G-League assignment after camp to the Salt Lake City Stars. Most NBA teams take advantage of this type of contract to keep these players in their system and away from overseas leagues or another team taking advantage of them.
Unlike a two-way contract, which has players split time between the NBA and G-League affiliate, Morgan would spend the majority of his season playing in the G-League with the opportunity to get called up on a 10-day contract. Currently, Utah’s two-way contract slots are occupied by both the Jazz 2019 second-rounders Jarrell Brantley and Justin Wright-Foreman.
With the Jazz looking to compete atop the Western Conference this season, in all likelihood Morgan will spend the entire season in the G-League for the Stars, allowing him to grow his game and get a large amount of playing time.
