The former Indiana baseball star made history with his huge grand slam over the weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In what has been an up-and-down year for the Chicago Cubs and former Indiana baseball slugger Kyle Schwarber, fans saw the good side of things this weekend. Not only did Schwarber add onto his home run total this year, but also broke an MLB record on top of it.

Though Statcast has been around for just five years, it has recorded some huge long balls, and Schwarber’s outdid all of them. On Sunday, his grand slam in the second inning reached 473-feet, the longest in Statcast history.

“Sick,” he said. “I’m surprised to hear that, because I’ve seen other guys go up there before.” Schwarber said when hearing it was the longest grand slam in Statcast history.

Schwarber’s grand slam was the longest home run of the year by a Cubs hitter, the longest at Miller Park in 2019 and tied for the 12th-longest home run in 2019. Gary Sanchez of the New York Yankees held the previous longest grand slam mark in Statcast history at 467-feet, which took place earlier this year.

Not only did Schwarber hit another home run in the game, he finished with seven total RBI’s. His previous 24 at bats saw only two hits before Sunday’s game, and his previous matchups against Brewer’s pitcher Zach Davies, Schwarber was just 2-for-23.
