After failing to make a bowl game in his first two seasons as the Indiana football head coach, Tom Allen expects that to change in 2019.
It was a busy weekend for the Indiana football program as they took part in Big Ten Media Day and head coach Tom Allen had a lot to say about the roster, his time as coach, and expectations for the 2019 season.
Bold predictions aren’t usually the best thing to make before the season starts, but that’s exactly what Allen did.
"“We’re going to win a bowl game. That’s what we’re shooting for,” Said Allen."
Indiana has a combined record of 10-14 in Allen’s first two seasons and have combined for just four conference wins. With the Big Ten being the brunt of the schedule, in order to make a bowl game, the Hoosiers need to turn some of their close losses into wins.
After losing to Utah in the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl, Indiana has yet to reach the postseason in each of the last two seasons, but that didn’t stop Allen from his prediction.
Falling just short of a bowl game each of the last two seasons, one extra win is the only thing that is standing in between them and a bowl game in 2019.
Why does he think this team is ready to take that big step this season?
"“We went out and recruited, built relationships, and signed the highest-ranked class in the history of our program,” Allen added."
The recruiting for Indiana has turned around without a doubt, but now it is time for the on the field results to show. Starting on August 31, we will find out if the Indiana program is ready for the bold prediction that Tom Allen made.
