With the summer in full swing, so is recruiting and the Indiana basketball program is sitting in good shape with two 2020 targets.

The 2020 recruiting class for the Indiana basketball program is an important one for Archie Miller in order to take the next step in his development as the coach in Bloomington. After turning in another impressive recruiting class in 2019, the Hoosiers are set to try to get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.

While Indiana is set to lose only two players from their current roster, they will have four open scholarships in 2020, leaving some room to be desired.

Though the Hoosiers don’t have any commitments in the 2020 class as of now, there are a few players who could get the ball rolling with decisions that could come by the end of the summer. The first name that comes to mind is 6-foot-6 forward Matt Cross. He has been open about his desire to make a decision in August and has stuck with that over the past few of weeks. He is down to Indiana, Miami (FL), South Carolina and while Butler is still in the mix, the first three schools seem to have a leg up on the Bulldogs.

Outside of Cross, there are two more names that have been continually linked with the Indiana program.

Anthony Leal and Trey Galloway are teammates for Indiana Elite on the Adidas Gauntlet summer circuit and have both picked up multiple crystal ball picks for Indiana this summer.

The links between the Hoosiers and the duo have continued when Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans took to his weekly Twitter Tuesday post to address the questions around Galloway and Leal’s recruitment.

"“They sure are. Indiana has been the team to beat for Trey Galloway immediately following their offering of the in-state prospect and nothing much has changed since then. While there was whispers that he was going to commit last month, Galloway has remained open with his recruitment, but it would be one of the bigger surprises in the 2020 class if he does not end up in Bloomington.”"

Galloway has long been rumored to become a Hoosier in the summer and as Evans mentioned, there were rumblings that he was going to commit around this time in the summer. Even though he hasn’t yet, all signs continue to point to a commitment from the Culver Academy guard this summer.

As for Leal, Evans still believes Indiana will be tough to beat.

"“Anthony Leal, told Rivals.com over the weekend that, yes, IU is in a good spot with him, but he doesn’t feel ready to end his recruitment just yet. Do I believe that he ends up at Indiana? I do, but I am also not entirely confident in such a prediction and overcoming such others as Cincinnati, Northwestern, Stanford and Xavier could prove to be very difficult."

Though the Leal recruitment hasn’t carried as much steam as Galloway’s with a possible commitment this summer, the Hoosiers continue to lead the pack for Leal.

Leal is the top ranked prospect in the state of Indiana and while Stanford and Cincinnati are two programs that have stood out so far in his recruitment, the Bloomington South native may be too invested in the Bloomington area to leave.

If Indiana lands all three targets by the fall, even though the recruiting process would still be in its early stages for most top prospects, Indiana would move up to the No. 2 overall class in the country per 247Sports.
