Indiana Basketball: 5 players IU should sign if the Big Ten had free agency
By Alec Lasley
Aaron Wheeler (F; Purdue)
Before people get all hung up in the fact that a Purdue player could actually help Indiana, just take a look at Wheeler’s ability.
The redshirt freshman averaged 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in just 13.8 minutes per game last year, but at 6-foot-9 and 200 pounds, has a great amount of versatility in his game.
One part of his versatile game that would benefit Indiana is his ability to stretch the floor. Taking 85 threes last season, he connected on 36.5 percent of them and made a three in 23 of the 36 games he played in.
His rebounding ability would also be a boost for Indiana that struggled at times to control the boards. Because of Indiana’s struggles to shoot the ball, his 8.1 offensive rebounding percentage, which would have ranked second on Indiana last year, would be crucial in making up for what were lost possessions.
He’s only a sophomore, so his development and continued improvement would only do Indiana wonders as they are looking relatively slim in the front court in the next couple of years.
