One Indiana basketball target was named a breakout performer on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring as the end of the season approaches.

The summer is in full swing for all of the top high school prospects around the country as one of the spring and early sessions of the AAU circuit is winding down. This weekend marks the end of the Nike EYBL session as the Peach Jam Tournament commences and awards were handed out to top performers this season, including one Indiana basketball target.

NY Renaissance guard R.J. Davis was spectacular all season long and saw his recruitment take off in the early stages of the summer. This week, he was named a breakout performer this season and was placed on the All-EYBL Breakout Team.

One of Indiana’s top guard targets in the 2020 class, Davis averaged 20.3 PPG on 49.7 percent shooting from the field and 46.9 percent from three.

Indiana was one of the first handful of teams to jump in his recruitment and since then, programs such as Kansas and Texas have recently offered and North Carolina and Villanova are in contact and closely monitoring.

Davis has been tagged as a combo guard, but has shown the ability to be a playmaker for his teammates and most teams recruiting him right now are looking for him to come in and control a lot of the ball handling responsibilities. He averaged 3.2 assists for NY Renaissance and showed flashes of that playmaking ability with five games of five or more assists in the 13 games he played in.

Having recently taken an official visit to Georgetown, the Hoyas are considered the frontrunner but teams such as Marquette, Indiana, UCLA, and Pittsburgh are right on their heels.

Davis is one of a handful of guards the Hoosiers are recruiting heavily for the 2020 class, looking to solidify their backcourt of the future.
