Former Indiana basketball forward Noah Vonleh agrees to deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves in free agency.

After the New York Knicks made it clear that former Indiana basketball forward Noah Vonleh was not a priority to re-sign in free agency, Vonleh became an under-the-radar target on the free agent market.

On Tuesday night, Vonleh agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves worth up to $2 million.

Vonleh, who was selected No. 9 overall in the 2014 draft is coming off of his best season as a pro. With the Knicks, Vonleh averaged 8.4 points and 7.8 rebounds in 25.3 minutes per game last season and showed he could be a valuable member to an NBA rotation.

Vonleh will join a Timberwolves roster that finished 11th in the western conference last season with a 36-46 record. With Dario Saric, Taj Gibson, and Anthony Tolliver leaving in the offseason, the front court of the Timberwolves was in need of depth, and Vonleh provides that. He now joins Karl-Anthony Towns, Gorgui Dieng, and newcomer Jordan Bell.

The Timberwolves were one of the last teams to make a move this offseason and once plans for D’Angelo Russell fell through, they made quick moves on Bell and now Vonleh.

Vonleh’s offensive skillset has developed greatly since he left Indiana. Taking just 33 threes in his lone season at IU, Vonleh took 137 last season, making them at a 34 percent clip.

Just 24 years old, Vonleh has already spent five seasons in the NBA and appeared in 10 playoff games during his two seasons in Portland.

Troy Williams is the last remaining former Hoosiers on the free agent market, and will look to sign a two-way contract this summer.
