No. 1: Isiah Thomas (1979-1981)

Isiah Thomas is unparalleled in terms of legacy and success as a player for Indiana in just two seasons.

Winning the Big Ten and advancing to the Sweet 16 as a freshman, he did one better as a sophomore as he led the Hoosiers to a National Championship in 1981, also winning the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award, and set single-season school records in assists and steals.

Also a consensus All-American in 1981, Thomas averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 assists in his two year career in Bloomington.

Not only did he have a great college career, but he went on to have a Hall of Fame worthy NBA career, winning two championships with the Detroit Pistons. No other IU player has had more professional success than Thomas.
