5. Michigan State Spartans

Conference: Big Ten
2018 record: 7-6

An elite defense returns for the Spartans and if paired with a healthy quarterback in Brian Lewerke, the Spartans may be playing in Indianapolis when it’s all said and done.

Last year, the Spartans offense was miserable in the last couple of weeks of the season, scoring seven or fewer points in four of their last seven games when Lewerke tried to play through a shoulder injury.

Cody White is back and healthy, and looks to lead the receiving core again. With no real game-changing running back, it may be by committee until someone steps up.

A new offensive coordinator steps in and will try to build up the offense to where it was before Lewerke was injured.
