Indiana Basketball: Juwan Morgan looks to bring his versatility to the Jazz
By Alec Lasley
Former Indiana basketball forward Juwan Morgan signs with the Utah Jazz following the NBA Draft.
It didn’t take long for former Indiana basketball forward Juwan Morgan to be swooped up by a team following the NBA Draft.
After not hearing his name called on Thursday, the Utah Jazz signed the forward to their summer league team as an undrafted free agent.
While this is just a summer league contract, most undrafted free agents typically sign these deals with the hopes of receiving a training camp invite later in the fall.
Morgan spent four seasons at Indiana, averaging 10.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 56.2 percent shooting.
The Third Team All-Big Ten selection as a senior isn’t the only former Hoosier to go this route though. Two former teammates, Troy Williams and Yogi Ferrell, went the same route after the 2016 seasons and has contributed to a multi-year deal for Ferrell and at times a two-way contract for Williams. Overall, they have played in 271 total NBA games.
Morgan’s game is highlighted by his versatility on both ends and energy. Being a guy who can guard and play multiple positions, it will all come down to his shooting ability. A career 30 percent three-point shooter, he averaged three attempts per game as a senior.
Working with trainer Joey Burton, Morgan’s shot has looked much better and consistent this summer.
The Jazz will host the Utah Summer League from July 1-3 with the round-robin event consisting of the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers.
