Indiana Basketball: How Romeo Langford fits with the Boston Celtics
By Alec Lasley
Overall Fit
The Celtics aren’t drafting Langford for his defense, but instead for his scoring ability.
With the NBA increasing their point per game average across the board by six points from a season ago, and their highest average since the 1968-69 season, you can never have enough scorers.
The Celtics are expected to lose three of their top four scorers from a season ago, so adding someone who can create their own shot and score in multiple ways was a must.
Though Langford won’t be a high volume scorer to begin his NBA career, he is someone who will be able to grow with the Celtics current core of Tatum and Brown, but will be pressured to step up if they cannot add stars in the offseason free agent class.
With a great coach in Brad Stevens, able to get the most out of the talent he is given, this is a perfect fit for Langford. Able to learn from a great mind, as well as a former college coach, I wouldn’t be surprised if Langford turns into a 15 point per game scorer by his second year, and is in the All-Star discussion within a couple of years.
