Indiana Basketball: 2020 target ends NBPA Top 100 Camp as standout

2020 point guard Hassan Diarra has seen his recruitment heat up and that includes his relationship with Archie Miller and the Indiana basketball program.
Hassan Diarra of Putnam Science Academy (CT) has seen his recruitment develop at a fast pace and it was helped even more with his strong week at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, with the Indiana basketball staff keeping close tabs on him.
The 2020 PG was offered by the Hoosiers on May 23 and has been in constant communication with the staff ever since.
Diarra is one of the most intriguing point guards prospects in the 2020 class due to his ability to defend at a high level and make plays for his teammates.
At the Top 100 Camp taking place in Charlottesville, VA, Diarra spoke with Prepcircuit about his recruitment and his relationship with Indiana coach Archie Miller.
"“We are staying in contact, Coach Miller and I have a good relationship so far,” he said. “I’m looking to take a visit there maybe during the school year or when it starts.”"
The 6-foot-2 guard has many notable offers in addition to Indiana, including Georgia, Dayton, Penn State and Wake Forest, all of which Diarra says are recruiting him the hardest.
He went on to give a rough timeline for visits.
"“I rather do them during the school year because I want to get a feel for the school’s environment when all the students are there,” said Diarra. “The relationship with the coach and one with a family oriented environment,” he said. “I like winning of course and that’s about it.”"
In a camp that was widely recognized as one of the most individual and one-on-one settings, showcasing many “selfish” plays and “shot jacking” exhibitions, as quoted by Evan Daniels, Diarra’s ability to maintain his playmaking mindset, setting up easy looks for others, made college coaches take notice.
On day two, Diarra’s play was on full display with a 19-point and 10-assist performance, the highest assist total for the week. While official stats have yet to be released for the entire event, after four games, Diarra ranked third with 4.3 assists per game.
While Diarra is an all-around point guard, his placement next to or backing up Rob Phinisee would prove to be a very talented point guard duo in the Big Ten.
Diarra may not have the flash or national recognition as some of the five-star prospects in the class, but he is a gritty guard who makes winning plays and would be a terrific addition to the Hoosiers backcourt if they are able to secure an eventual commitment from him.
