Former Indiana basketball forward OG Anunoby and the Toronto Raptors win their first NBA Title in franchise history.
The NBA season has come to a close with former Indiana basketball forward OG Anunoby and the Toronto Raptors taking home the NBA Title.
Winning 114-110 on Thursday night, the Raptors defeated the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors 4-2 in the series.
Though Anunoby didn’t see the floor in the NBA Finals due to an emergency appendectomy, he was a crucial member of the rotation throughout the entire season, earning every bit of the ring.
Anunoby was activated by the Raptors ahead of game two of the series, but did not appear in any of the games following game two.
Averaging 7.0 points and 2.9 rebounds a game this year, Anunoby played in 67 games on the season but missed the entire playoffs for the Raptors due to his injury right before the playoffs started.
Adding to the ring collection, Anunoby becomes the seventh former Indiana Hoosier player to win an NBA Championship.
Included on the list is Herm Schaefer (’49-50), Dick Farley (’54-55), Jon McGlocklin (’70-71), Steve Downing (’73-74), Quinn Buckner (’83-84), and Isiah Thomas (’88-89, ’89-90). Isiah Thomas still holds the most NBA Finals appearances amongst former Hoosiers with three.
With a series record of 9-5 in the NBA Finals, a total of 11 different former Hoosiers have now appeared in the Finals.
Some former players and members of the Indiana program took to social media to congratulate Anunoby.
